David Kempton is the Assistant Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs and your CanDo Member for Cook.
David was born in central NSW, raised on a cattle farm and has chosen to be a North Queenslander living in Cooktown until 2003 when he moved to Cairns to further his two daughters education.
For the past 25 years he worked as a lawyer in Cape York and rural Queensland where he developed an extensive and specialist practice in property law, particularly in relation to the pastoral industry.
He has been tireless in his battle against the erosion of property and personal rights by successive Labor governments and bureaucrats and is motivated to go to the next level and represent a wider group of people as the member for Cook.
David has a strong association with the people of Cook through his work, business and former pastoral interest in the north and has vowed to stand up for the Cook electorate in Brisbane.
David has travelled extensively through the Cape and still has a lot of communities to cover. He has been listening carefully peoples concerns but is most interested in their views as to what works well and what they would like to see for the future. He sees an enormous task ahead of him as he works with the Campbell and the team to rebuild community faith in Government and to re-establish essential infrastructure and services lost over the past 20 years.
David will be fighting for improved primary health and hospital services, aged care, de-amalgamation, road infrastructure, improved education opportunities, support for farmers and businesses by getting rid of government interference, allow councils to again govern locally, reduce government waste, ensure value for every tax payer dollar spent, stronger united governance, economic development and a host of social and community issues. He is particularly irked by over-regulation by governments.
David is committed to working for all of the people of Cook from the Torres Strait to Mareeba and will establish his electorate offices in Thursday Island and Mareeba and undertake to travel regularly to all areas so people can raise issues that need addressing.
He brings experience energy and understanding to a wide and varied electorate and is excited about the potential of its future.
