Fiona Simpson is the Speaker Elect of the House and your Member for Maroochydore.

A former Rotary Exchange student to Japan and award winning journalist (Dalgety's Award - Excellence in Rural Journalism), Fiona was elected at the age of 27 in 1992 to the Queensland Parliament as the youngest woman MP at that time.
Fiona served as Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Deputy Nationals Leader until voluntarily relinquishing these roles in 2008 to facilitate the merger of the Liberals and Nationals to form the LNP.
Fiona is a passionate advocate to restore Queensland's former status as the leading State, by encouraging and supporting a vibrant business environment and enterprises, with quality liveability throughout the many regions, with incentives for all Queenslanders to prosper – and with the minimum of governmental interference.
Fiona's interests are family, music, horse riding, and bushwalking. Her favourite sayings are: "There's never been a cynic that's changed the world for the better" and "If you don't like what's happening in the world around you, get in there and make a difference."
