Freya Ostapovitch is your CanDo Member for Stretton.
Ex-mental health nurse, business woman and full time community volunteer, Freya Ostapovitch is the LNP's CanDo Member for Stretton.
Freya Ostapovitch has been married for almost 35 years to her Canadian born husband. They have two sons, schooled at Runcorn State School, who now serve their community as a police officer and a doctor.
Soon after moving to Sunnybank Hills 22 years ago, she began a school and sports photography business and over the years it grew to be Queensland's second largest photography business. Every year, for almost 12 years, she photographed thousands of local school students and sports teams and was affectionately known as Mrs O.
Ms Ostapovitch was the Vice President of the Logan Chamber of Commerce for three years and represented her local businesses at Commerce Queenslan.
"We must do more for the business community to encourage them to employ more full time staff rather than casual employees," Freya has said.
"There is nothing harder than getting a loan or a mortgage if you are a casual employee, and it seems like every second person you meet these days is a casual. Governments must start caring about people again, rather than use them as a number in a deceptive employment statistic."
However she says it's her passion for community and giving all people a voice that led her to this point in her life. She moved from business mentoring to volunteering in many associations like Bravehearts, Salvation Army, Seniors Action Group and Australian Pensioners and Superannuates League. She's a member of the Siroptimists International, Womens Ethnic Group, National Council of Women, Multilink, Bravehearts and PCYC.
She has been the President of the Loganlea Community Centre for two years and supported many programs that help children, seniors, ethnic groups and the disabled.
"I believe that everyone just wants to feel they are important enough to be listened to. I want people to know I am listening."
