Born in Babinda, Queensland, Warren served in the Royal Australian Air Force between 1969-78, including a tour of duty in South Vietnam. In his early days, Warren was described as 'a handy man with snakes, crocodiles and other wild creatures.'

His background is diverse encompassing careers in real estate development, grazing and crocodile industry and company director before entering politics. He is the father of three sons and now spends his time between Cairns and his farm on the Atherton Tablelands.

Warren was elected as the Federal member for the Far North Queensland electorate of Leichhardt, in the Australian Parliament in 1996, and was returned at three subsequent elections, each time increasing his majority. He has always been a strong “coalitionist”, embracing all elements of the then Liberal and National Parties.

Warren was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Industry, Science and Resources 1998-2001 and was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Industry, Tourism and Resources from 2001 to 2006. In 2007 he left the Federal Parliament to spend more time with his family.

Warren’s deep passion for wildlife and conservation has been evident with his avid support of the Australian Rainforest Foundation, of which he is the Chair.

He is a member of the “Harald’s House” committee, a charitable organisation in Cairns catering for the needs of at risk youth.

Warren is also a member of the Board of directors of the CEC Group, a publicly listed construction and development company in North Queensland. In addition, Warren is a Director of the Dr Edward Koch Foundation, focusing on suicide and self harm prevention.
