Steve Dickson
Member for Buderim
Steve Dickson was born at Mt Morgan in June 1962. He experienced first-hand the effects of drought when his family was forced off the land while he was still a child.
Educated at Carina State School and Coorparoo State High School, Steve worked in various fields before becoming a small business owner in the 1980s, with a motel and caravan park. Later he moved to Montville in the Sunshine Coast hinterland where he started the area’s first horse drawn carriage service and had an interest in the Montville Vineyard and Winery.
Steve then moved to Buderim and started his political career when elected as a divisional councillor for Maroochy Shire in 2000. His council roles included being chair of town planning and a board member of Aquagen, the Caloundra\Maroochy Water Board.
In September 2006, Steve successfully entered state politics as the Liberal Member for Kawana. On election, he was appointed Deputy Opposition Whip. Following the merger of the Queensland Liberal and National Parties to form the LNP in July 2008, Steve became Shadow Minister for Workplace and Job Security (including Employment and Industrial Relations).
Steve’s family has a long history of political involvement. His grandfather and father were both councillors, with his grandfather serving for 32 years. Steve is proud that his son Christian was elected in October 2006, to fill the position of Councillor that Steve vacated. Christian is currently serving as a Sunshine Coast Regional Councillor.
Steve is married to Debbie and they have two sons. He is patron of a number of local community and sporting organizations.
