In response to the unprecedented weather events, the 2010-2011 Queensland Flood and Cyclone Citation is being awarded to police officers across the state, as well as Queensland Emergency Service officers, Queensland Fire and Rescue Service personnel and State Emergency Service officers who were involved during that period.
The key outcomes for Police were predominantly to save lives and livelihoods. The commitment, dedication and achievements over this period demonstrate the diligent professionalism and willingness of Police to lend a hand to help out fellow Queenslanders under threat and in need.
John Kerslake said, "Every police officer who was involved in Queensland's Disaster preparation and response helped in some way to save lives and communities from the full effects," he said.
Mr. Kerslake said, "Police were on the street, planning, co-coordinating, the team did an exceptional job under extreme weather conditions." He said many police officers had sacrificed time at home to pitch in and look after the community."
"When cyclone Yasi threatened and unleashed, the Mackay team prepared and responded. Every officer involved performed an exceptional job throughout the disaster," he said.
