Mackay Police Station Refurbishments Fails the Test

Labor's Anna Bligh and Tim Mulherin will take credit for the old 1930's Mackay Police Station refurbishments and use this as an example of Labor working in Mackay.  The truth is the opposite, Labor takes Mackay for granted, they take the riches from the area and spend them elsewhere, LNP Candidate for Mackay, John Kerslake said today.

"The refurbishments of the old Mackay Police Station only occurred when Labor's Anna Bligh and Tim Mulherin where embarrassed after it was exposed in the media that our local Police Officers were working in dangerous conditions.

The building had an asbestos scare, was full of dangerous mould growth, had lead based paint flaking by the bucket load and water leaked in like a sieve. This was while Police Officers were expected to work in dangerous conditions.  I know because I was working in the building when we had to evacuate, John Kerslake said.

Labor's Tim Mulherin allowed our local Police Station to fall apart and become dangerous before doing something about it, too little too late.  No more dodgy Mr fix it jobs from Labor please, this area pays its taxes and deserves much better than what Labor can ever provide.

It was identified years ago that a modern Mackay Police Station was needed to suit a  21st century Police Service.  Instead the current building was built far too small and not appropriate for modern policing.  This is due to a lack of vision and planning by Labor or as I believe, due to Labor taking Mackay for granted and spending our money elsewhere, John Kerslake said.

Instead Mackay has another dodgy fix it up job just like our Base Hospital Redevelopment 10 years ago.  Labor will not spend real money here without another asset sale.  It should be a museum piece not a Police Station, John Kerslake said.

Labor thinks Mackay will always vote Labor, I believe Mackay needs a change and a fresh start, a real future.  I promise to work hard and always try to do my best as I've done all my working life.  Can Labor live up to this standard, I say the answer is NO.  It's time to go Anna and Tim.  It's time for a change, it's time to get Queensland back on track, John Kerslake said.
