"The people of Mackay and Central Queensland are facing a crisis in available land and affordable housing construction. I have been approached by families seeking assistance as they no long afford to live in the Mackay, at the same time we have an increasing trend towards a fly in fly out workforce," he added.
"Labor's Anna Bligh and her local Labor member have silently watched on as householders costs of living increased out of reach of the average local family. Labor has walked away from Mackay and has completely failed in my opinion", he said.
"We are seeing Mackay families in distress under this Labor Government, I urgent these families to speak out with me, come and make contact to tell your story. We need to highlight these families in distress so we can discuss short and long term solutions, in my opinion this is not being discussed at all by this Labor Government.
"I believe we are slowly but surely moving towards a fly in fly out Mackay, what kind of community will this create for our children in Central Queensland. In my opinion it isn't one, it's just a giant city sized Mac Camp," John Kerslake said.
"The local Labor member will attempt to dismiss these concerns and start quoting stats. Well I'm interested in real people with real problems, Mackay has lost its liveability, I believe we can all feel it and see it, he said.
"Queensland's infrastructure and development needs should not be determined by the electoral cycle. Queenslanders want their block of land with a house they can call a home, few want high density housing. Urgent work is needed with local Government and industry to ensure the necessary land is released in a timely manner and becomes affordable. We need to urgently reduce red tape which forces delays in developments. We need Government authorities with a CANDO mentality.
"Local residents are sick and tired of pouring their hard earned tax dollars into Labor's botched projects, poorly planned infrastructure and Mackay hearing empty promises which never progress past a 'hard hat' media opportunity", Mr Kerslake said.
