Communities, the environment and Industry to benefit from LNP resources strategy

"Mismanagement of the resources sector by this tired, 20-year-old Labor Government has delivered nothing but uncertainty," Mr Watts said.

Mr Watts said the LNP will use an improved system of statutory regional planning to determine appropriate areas for resources development.

Last November Mr Newman and Shadow Minister for Mining and Resource Management Jack Dempsey put the industry on notice that under an LNP Government operators would be required to meet the most stringent environmental standards in the world and deliver the best social outcomes for Queenslanders.

"Our strategy will restore confidence for the resource industry, and entrench it as one of the four pillars an LNP Government will grow to get Queensland's struggling economy back on track."

"We have an abundance of resources that Queenslanders want and deserve to get an immense economic benefit from, but the LNP would demand the world's best environmental and community benefit from our mining and resources sector," Mr Newman said.

"We need industry's co-operation and we will support them to have a positive influence on the communities they work in."

"This will give communities and industry confidence.  The LNP message is clear - we want the best outcomes for Queensland from our resource developments," Mr Watts said.

The Co-ordinator General will be given greater powers to drive resources projects and the LNP will also improve the Social Impact Management Plan (SIMP) system to ensure investment under these plans is properly managed and coordinated, and that resources areas reap real benefits from resources developments in local areas.

"We only want the best companies here and many are doing well. We will lead the way for the rest of the world not only in production and stable industry regulation, but in environmental management, social responsibility and community benefit from resources and energy developments," Mr Newman said.

"The LNP's strategy gives regulatory stability and investment security, and demands better outcomes.

"Under a CanDo LNP Government, responsible resources companies will play a vital role in harnessing the benefits of this mining boom as part of a uniform, four pillar approach to restoring our economy and getting Queensland back on track."
