Labor MP Kerry Shine backs squeeze on family health insurance

Labor MP Kerry Shine should explain to local residents why he voted in support of another attack on family budgets – this time cuts to the private health insurance rebate, LNP candidate for Toowoomba North, Trevor Watts said today.

"Yesterday in State Parliament, each Labor MP backed the Gillard governments move to cut the rebate, which will place even more pressure on already stretched family budgets," Trevor Watts said.

"Labor MP Kerry Shine is part of a government which has already slugged families with higher power, water and car rego costs, not to mention Labor's $7,000 tax on the family home and their support of the job destroying carbon tax.

"Labor MP's care about backing their Labor mates, not Queensland families," Trevor Watts said.

Mr Watts said lower health insurance rebates could mean many families will now be forced to drop private health insurance, or choose less cover, resulting in even more strain on our already over stretched public hospitals.

"The LNP is committed to providing better access to health services across Queensland and lowering cost of living pressures on Queensland families by up to $330 per year.

"Only a Campbell Newman led LNP government will get Queensland back on track," Mr Watts said.
