Labor's slashing of vital road safety programs will put Queensland lives at risk, the LNP said today.
State Member for Redlands Peter Dowling said Labor's cut of $2 million, amounting to a quarter of the funding for road safety campaigns this financial year, was an absolute disgrace.
Latest education department figures released this week by the Queensland Government, reveal teacher-aide support for Queensland Primary School students is now less than an hour a week.
State Member for Redlands Peter Dowling said the level of support was pathetic and he was struggling to understand why Labor are continuing to let down parents and families during such hard financial times.
State Member for Redlands Peter Dowling confirmed this week that the Government has granted two Redlands' organisations funding towards sport and recreation involvement as part of the Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Program, Toward Q2: Tomorrow's Queensland focus.
"I am pleased to have official confirmation from Minister Phil Reeves, Minister for Child Safety and Minister for Sport, that Redland City Council and the Victoria Point Sharks Sporting Club have both received funding under Round 3 of the Queensland Government's Sport and Infrastructure Program.
The Bligh Labor government was set to give Queensland's 400,000 businesses more costly and confusing red tape in the form of onerous new Workplace, Health & Safety regulations from January 1.
State Member for Redlands Mr Peter Dowling said, "The 20-year Labor government had rushed to sign-up for the new regulations – covering no less than 400 pages – with little or no consultation with business. In less than four weeks and with Christmas-New Year to boot, Queensland's 400,000 businesses will be forced to comply with more red tape, more paperwork and a whole raft of new regulations that few have heard of and fewer understand."
State Member for Redlands Mr Peter Dowling said that over the Christmas/Festive season it is important to remember that for many people it a very stressful time, with financial or personal pressures coming to the forefront.
Mr Dowling said, "This time of year can be quite an emotional time for many in the community and I encourage those in the Redlands to reach out to others who might need assistance in any way. Assistance doesn't need to be monetary but offering your time to those that could do with some company, donating blood to the Red Cross Blood Bank or volunteering your services to a local Charity, Meals on Wheels or Church group."
Peter Dowling, State Member for Redlands said he had a positive meeting with the Minister for Environment & Resource Management, the Hon. Vicky Darling and he outlined the issues as they relate to the dredging between Victoria Point and Coochiemudlo Island.
The Minister confirmed that Redland City Council need to lodge an application with the Minister for Main Roads, Marine Infrastructure and Fisheries and the application is formally required to go through Maritime Safety Queensland and to DERM who will be a principal concurrent agent to ensure it meets environmental assessment as the application relates to a Marine Park.
Peter Dowling, State Member for Redlands said he was elated to hear that the local Redlands City State Emergency Unit had won a stack of awards including the Regional Unit of the Year for the third consecutive year.
