Special hearing for Mt Gravatt Showgrounds issue

The inquiry into the Bligh Government's grab for control of the Mt Gravatt Showgrounds will hold a special hearing on the site on the morning of Friday, October 14, LNP candidate for Mansfield Ian Walker said today.

Mr Walker had formally requested the Parliamentary Transport, Local Government and Infrastructure Committee to hold a special hearing on site, and is encouraging as many local residents as possible to attend and have their say.

"This committee has members from both sides of politics and it is a real opportunity for the local community to be heard," Mr Walker said.
He confirmed he had lodged a detailed submission to the committee.

"In brief it says to Mr Reeves and this tired Labor Government - 'Hands off our Showgrounds. It is ridiculous for the State to impose a gender balance on a well functioning, small, local trust. The balance Mr Reeves should be concentrating on is Queensland's disastrous budget balance – that would be a better use of the Parliament's time".

Details of the committee's consideration of the legislation can be found here.
