Bins not the answer to Julie Attwood & Labor’s waste tax hurt on Mt Ommaney businesses

Labor's recycling collection bin grant for Queensland businesses being launched by the hapless Julie Attwood today was a drop in the ocean compared to the punishing bills they will be forced to pay under the Bligh government's damaging waste tax, the local LNP Candidate Tarnya Smith said today.

LNP Mt Ommaney Candidate Mrs Smith said Labor's ill-conceived program kicking off in Sumner Park today did not go far enough to heal local businesses' hurt from increasing Labor red tape and mounting taxes.

"Local traders and manufacturers are screaming out for economic relief – the answer is not solely with recycling equipment," said Mrs Smith.

Mrs Smith slammed the Bligh Government for adding to the soaring cost of living for all Mt Ommaney families and businesses because of Labor's waste tax which kicked in on 1 December.

"Labor's damaging waste tax and token bins are not the Christmas presents local businesses need," she said.

"For example, residential aged care operators, and there are a number of them in my electorate, have told me they are very concerned about their waste charges which will be hiked up by at least 35 per cent.

"This is just another onerous tax that has been introduced by Labor to capture green preferences – rather than truly achieve actual green outcomes," she said.

"The LNP will repeal Labor's job destroying waste tax".

Mrs Smith also questioned how much Ms Attwood knew about Queensland Health's alleged $16 million fraud scandal.

"As Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Ms Attwood must be accountable for Labor's employment of a public servant who allegedly swindled millions of taxpayers' dollars on a luxury-filled lifestyle," said Mrs Smith.

"Local residents have told me they're frustrated that not one Labor Minister has been made responsible for the Bligh government's failures. Ms Attwood must take some responsibility for her role within the Health portfolio.

"The only way to get real change is to change the government. It's time for a change, it's time to get Queensland back on track," said Mrs Smith.Bins not the answer to Julie Attwood & Labor's waste tax hurt on Mt Ommaney businesses
