Mount Ommaney students to benefit from LNP e-learning policy

Mount Ommaney students to benefit from LNP e-learning policy LNP

LNP Candidate for Mount Ommaney Tarnya Smith today applauded Campbell Newman's announcement of an e-learning policy if elected to office at the forthcoming State election.

"This policy will see each special and mainstream school within the education system benefit from the supplement of ipads or tablets, 20 for special and 10 for mainstream institutions respectively," Mrs Smith said.

"We've well and truly entered a digital era with most schools currently or well on their way to transitioning to a platform of primarily modern teaching methods, including the use of new electronic whiteboard technology.

"In these fast changing times, this policy will maintain our special needs students are not left behind and will receive the adequate tools to reach their full potential."

Based within the electorate of Mount Ommaney are eight Education Queensland and two private framework schools, the vast majority of which are eligible under this policy with a special needs education unit or enrolment intake of solely special needs students.

"A key focus of special needs education is to equip students with life tools to live life to their upmost potential, aiding occupational placement after school.

"To elude the fact technology makes society go round and cease to ensure special needs educational facilities are providing students with the ability to utilise technology at its peak potential, is both careless and inequitable.

"In laymen terms, to consider the policy if implemented into Mount Ommaney Special School, which caters to students age ranged five to 18, 20 ipads or tablets sees a student to device ratio of approximately two to one; a substantial contribution to education.

"The LNP is committed to revitalising frontline services to get Queensland back on track and if elected, I promise to continue the fight locally", Mrs Smith said.
