The withdrawal of Xstrata from the Copperstring project is more about meeting the needs of their own operation without making a contribution to the States North West Region and to expand other mining interests," Mr Pattel said.

Budget blues for North West Queenslanders

Published in North & Far North Queensland Written by Mick Pattel

Residents of Mount Isa Electorate should steel themselves for bigger household bills this year, due to State Labor's slick Budget swindle, LNP Leader Campbell Newman said today.

"I would like to congratulate the vision and drive of those involved in the development of the Flinders River Ag Precinct Project," said Mr Pattel.

This project is supported by the Flinders, Richmond and McKinlay Shires and involves the development of mosaic irrigation along the Flinders River. It is aimed at existing and new irrigators who have access to suitable river land and water along the Flinders River.

ADDRESSING the high cost of living and lack of housing affordability were key priorities for the LNP, State candidate Mick Pattel and Shadow Minister for Communities and Housing Fiona Simpson said today.

CUTTING taxes, fixing planning laws, re-empowering councils and increasing State Government support at the highest level were key features of the LNP's Property and Construction Strategy, LNP Candidate for Mount Isa, Mick Pattel said today.

"As any good farmer would know, being successful in farming is all about preparation, preparation, and preparation. So with that in mind the LNP is preparing for the future and its farmers of Queensland," Mr Pattel said.

Reducing cost of living pressures for local families in Mulgrave and ensuring a strong four pillar economy to provide local jobs now and into the future are the key election issues for our community and to get Queensland back on track, LNP candidate for Mulgrave, Robyn Quick said today.

"The March 24 election offers a clear choice for local residents. A choice between more of the same deception, spin and wasted money we've had from 20 years of Labor or an energetic and focussed LNP team committed to getting Queensland back on track," Mrs Quick said.

Quick to meet with truck drivers

Published in North & Far North Queensland Written by Robyn Quick

With three recent reports damning the state of the Bruce Highway, LNP candidate for Mulgrave, Robyn Quick, is convening a meeting on Thursday 9 February of trucking contractors' representatives and drivers to discuss their concerns and provide an opportunity for these concerns to be provided to Campbell Newman and the LNP leadership team.

"The Bruce Highway is our major supply artery for Far North Queensland and yet is subject to frequent closures due to flooding, (530 times since 2009  RACQ) and consists of narrow and dangerous bridges,  dangerous stretches including the section between Innisfail and Cairns, identified by the RACQ as among the worst. The volume of traffic has increased fourfold over the last twenty years, with a lack of overtaking or passing lanes and parking bays," Mrs Quick said.

The Mulgrave Chamber of Commerce and Edmonton Traders have today launched a new petition to examine the options of a second access into Cairns.

"This will build upon the work done by the Southern Corridor Group over the last three years," Mrs Quick, LNP candidate for Mulgrave, who is also coordinator of the Southern Corridor Action Group and a member of Mulgrave Chamber of Commerce, said today.
