ADDRESSING the high cost of living and lack of housing affordability were key priorities for the LNP, State candidate Mick Pattel and Shadow Minister for Communities and Housing Fiona Simpson said today.
With three recent reports damning the state of the Bruce Highway, LNP candidate for Mulgrave, Robyn Quick, is convening a meeting on Thursday 9 February of trucking contractors' representatives and drivers to discuss their concerns and provide an opportunity for these concerns to be provided to Campbell Newman and the LNP leadership team.
"The Bruce Highway is our major supply artery for Far North Queensland and yet is subject to frequent closures due to flooding, (530 times since 2009 RACQ) and consists of narrow and dangerous bridges, dangerous stretches including the section between Innisfail and Cairns, identified by the RACQ as among the worst. The volume of traffic has increased fourfold over the last twenty years, with a lack of overtaking or passing lanes and parking bays," Mrs Quick said.
The Mulgrave Chamber of Commerce and Edmonton Traders have today launched a new petition to examine the options of a second access into Cairns.
"This will build upon the work done by the Southern Corridor Group over the last three years," Mrs Quick, LNP candidate for Mulgrave, who is also coordinator of the Southern Corridor Action Group and a member of Mulgrave Chamber of Commerce, said today.
The Bligh Labor Government has rubbed salt into the wounds of the Cairns health system by promising to fund a new children's intensive care unit in Townsville just a day after Labor candidate Kirsten Lesina announced her plan to fix Cairns Base Hospital by changing its name.
CUTTING taxes, fixing planning laws, re-empowering councils and increasing State Government support at the highest level were key features of the LNP's Property and Construction Strategy, LNP Candidate for Mount Isa, Mick Pattel said today.
The Bruce Highway has been named the deadliest major road in Australia and accounts for one in six deaths in the entire national road network in Queensland, LNP candidate for Mulgrave, Robyn Quick said today.
After 20 years in government, and after promising the upgrade to the Wright's Creek bridge section of the Bruce Highway for the fourth election in a row, the local community will not be fooled again, LNP candidate for Mulgrave Robyn Quick said today.
"We are faced with the spectacle of failed Labor Ministers wheeled out to recycle unkept promises. The former Labor Minister for Main Roads and Member for Mulgrave, Warren Pitt promised to fix this problem 9 years ago. He again promised to do so 6 years ago; and then the current Labor member for Mulgrave, Curtis Pitt promised the very same thing 3 years ago. Now, with an election imminent, and right on cue, they roll out the very same promise for a fourth time," Mrs Quick said.
The LNP candidate for Mulgrave, Robyn Quick, has blasted the latest "draft" health plan for a southern health precinct announced today by Labor Member for Mulgrave, Curtis Pitt, as a mirage of empty promises of false hope which contains no funding and a 14 year time frame.
"Before the last election, this Bligh Labor government promised a new hospital with the proceeds from the sale of the Cairns Airport, proceeds which have now been spent elsewhere. The "new draft plan" for 2012 to 2026 includes the recommendation of the "development of a new hospital on the Edmonton Health Precinct site", but does not specify any timeline in the proposed time frame," Mrs Quick said.
"I would like to congratulate the vision and drive of those involved in the development of the Flinders River Ag Precinct Project," said Mr Pattel.
This project is supported by the Flinders, Richmond and McKinlay Shires and involves the development of mosaic irrigation along the Flinders River. It is aimed at existing and new irrigators who have access to suitable river land and water along the Flinders River.
