The CanDo LNP Agriculture Strategy.

Published in North & Far North Queensland Written by Mick Pattel

"As any good farmer would know, being successful in farming is all about preparation, preparation, and preparation. So with that in mind the LNP is preparing for the future and its farmers of Queensland," Mr Pattel said.

The community of Babinda is being anchored to the past and not allowed to progress towards a new future because of bureaucratic interference, according to local residents.

"After the destruction of Cyclone Yasi and the closure of the Babinda Sugar Mill, the community has been working to find a way forward and build a new future," LNP candidate for Mulgrave, Robyn Quick said.

Liz Schmidt, a livestock transport operator and passionate advocate for north Queensland, has today been preselected by grassroots members of the LNP as the candidate for the seat of Dalrymple.

Mrs Schmidt said she put her hand up to run for the LNP as she was sick of watching Queensland suffer under huge debt, massive waste and skyrocketing costs of living.

Local Mulgrave residents who are thinking of a vote for the Katter Australian Party would only help re-elect a Bligh Labor government, LNP candidate for Mulgrave, Robyn Quick said today.

"If people want to get rid of this tired Labor government, they can't muck around voting for minor parties.  People need to just vote 1 for the Liberal National Party," Mrs Quick said.

As one who was present in the Far North at the announcement of Campbell Newman's planned changes to the management of Cape York, it is a travesty that your report on page 36 (CM November 5-6) ignored any mention of the presence of key indigenous leaders, including Noel Pearson, Cape York Partnerships, Richie Ahmat, Chair of Cape York Land Council, representatives from Cape York Sustainable Futures and others and the impact of the Wild Rivers legislation on indigenous communities.

The withdrawal of Xstrata from the Copperstring project is more about meeting the needs of their own operation without making a contribution to the States North West Region and to expand other mining interests," Mr Pattel said.

LNP Candidate for Barron River, Michael Trout today called on the Minister for Environment and Resource Management, Vicky Darling, to consider the safety of Far North Queensland residents and visitors.

Last weekend, beaches at Trinity Beach and Palm Cove were closed due to crocodile sightings in the area.

Far North jobless rate above the average

Published in North & Far North Queensland Written by Tim Nicholls

Far North Queensland is feeling the brunt of the 'jobless boom' under Labor recording an unemployment rate higher than the state average, regional jobs figures released today reveal.

LNP Shadow Treasurer Tim Nicholls said the Bligh Labor Government's misguided mismanagement of the economy was hampering Queensland's recovery and sending the state hurtling towards $85 billion in debt with interest payments of $595,000 an hour.

If senior bureaucrats from Queensland Health are right, Labor is gearing up to announce a south-side health clinic any day now.

LNP Candidate for Cairns Gavin King predicts it will be their plush election ploy to take the focus off everything that is wrong with Queensland Health.
