All invited to Andrew Powell's campaign launch

Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell MP will kick off his re-election campaign for the seat of Glass House in an all day launch on Saturday 4 February 2012.

"Glass House is such a large electorate that the only way of making sure we reach as many of our main towns as possible is to make it a whole day event.

"The community is used to seeing my mobile office when it rolls into their town and my campaign launch will be no different.  It is all about making myself accessible to the community at a time that suits them.

"This invitation is extended to all residents of Glass House to come along and have a chat and a bite to eat at the same time.

"The idea is to make it one huge all day community catch up so it would be great to see as many local people as possible.

"The launch will go ahead rain, hail or shine but be sure to check my website to see if there are any last minute location changes." Mr Powell concluded.

Andrew Powell

Andrew Powell is the Minister for Environment and Heritage Protection and your Member for Glass House.

Andrew was born in Melbourne and spent time in Brisbane, Rockhampton and Sydney during his childhood. His family eventually settled in Burpengary in time for Andrew to complete his schooling at Grace Lutheran College, Redcliffe. Andrew went on to the University of Queensland where he was awarded Bachelor Degrees in Science (Geographical Sciences and Physics) and Arts (Modern History and Russian).

Andrew began a career in public service with the Department of Defence in Canberra. His four years with the Department gave him a strong grounding in strategic policy development, budget management and human resource management.

In 1998, Andrew married Taryn and together they subsequently spent six months working in Fiji and New Zealand before returning to Queensland to start a family.  Their family now includes five children - Daniel, Erin, Brielle, Benjamin and Rohanna.

Andrew’s career also included employment with the Department of the Premier and Cabinet and the Department of Child Safety. His area of expertise is in the field of “community engagement” – a field where the Government seeks the input and ideas of the local community and interested stakeholders when making important decisions. Unfortunately, not all such decisions recently made by the Bligh Government have taken the community’s views into consideration – for example, the asset sales, removal of the fuel subsidy and the water debacle.  Andrew’s commitment is to listen to the views of his local communities and to work hard to address their concerns in State Parliament.

Andrew and his family live in the electorate at Palmwoods – a beautiful part of the world and a great place to raise a family. Andrew is keen to see the amenities and qualities of Palmwoods, and other townships in Glass House (such as Maleny, Peachester, Woodford, Wamuran, and Glasshouse Mountains), maintained and preserved into the future.

Andrew is a Christian and fellowships with his family at a local church. He also takes a keen interest in supporting the work of School Chaplains in the area. He is a mad keen sportsman, enjoying both participating and viewing. He has played indoor and outdoor soccer, golf and indoor cricket. He loves to watch the AFL and both codes of rugby, especially with his children who are increasingly sharing his passion with all things sport. He continues to take great pleasure in coaching his son’s soccer team – the Palmwoods Warriors.

Having lived and worked in the region for nearly a decade, Andrew has developed a strong rapport with local members of the LNP Team including Federal Members of Parliament, Wyatt Roy and Alex Somlyay. He has also developed effective working relationships with local Regional Councillors including Jenny McKay, Anna Grosskreutz and Adrian Raedel whose divisions take in the electorate of Glass House.

By listening to your views, Andrew believes together you can deliver a better future for the electorate of Glass House.
