Bleijie to lead community delegation meeting with Minister over Highway upgrade plans

Government plans to upgrade the Bruce Highway, Caloundra Road interchange and Sunshine Motorway interchange have been met with widespread criticism from local residents and business owners.

Member for Kawana Jarrod Bleijie said that it was important for people to have their say on the project, which will affect the entire Coast.

Mr Bleijie has arranged to meet with Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace on Thursday 16 February, with representatives from the Sippy Downs & District Community Association and Highway Action Group, to discuss the Government's plans.

"Now is the time for the Government to listen to feedback from local residents and business owners and get the plan right," Mr Bleijie said.

"Closing access to the Sippy Downs community will cause major internal traffic congestion for that community.

"It is also important to consider the impact that the proposed upgrade will have on major tourist attractions such as Aussieworld and the Ettamogah Pub.

"I am pleased that the Minister has agreed to meet and listen to feedback on the draft plans.

"The petition that was launched at the recent community forum has over 3000 signatures thus far," Mr Bleijie said.

Residents are being urged to sign the Parliamentary paper and e-petitions by this Friday before they are tabled in the Queensland Parliament next week.

The e-petition can be signed at http://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/work-of-assembly/petitions/e-petitions and follow the prompt to "Access to Sippy Downs"

"Now is the time to provide your feedback," Mr Bleijie said.
