Local Flooding Highlights LNP's Focus on Discovery Coast Roads

Recent heavy rainfall and associated flooding of Discovery Coast roads has underlined the importance of the LNP's commitment to properly fund regional road networks.

LNP candidate for Burnett Stephen Bennett has pushed the need to fix roads throughout the region, particularly those north of Bundaberg.

Part of his campaign has included lobbying Federal and State Shadow Ministers, and hosting round table meetings of affected residents, businesses and relevant decision-makers.

"Safe and weatherproof roads are crucial for residents and businesses of the region, as is the potential for new road links to be built at some stage in the future," he said.

"Projects which improve the capacity and safety of our roads must be a priority and the LNP will not back away from the fight to get the money where it is needed.

"But the only way to get the money where it's needed is to have a change of government in Queensland.

"Only the LNP can deliver better roads for regional areas, and I am the only candidate who can work constructively with local government authorities to make sure these projects happen.

"Just a couple of projects I've got on the table are floodproofing Fingerboard Road and upgrading the Essendean Bridge, as well as some ideas for new roads in the region.

"That stretch of road is experiencing increased traffic as more and more vehicles travel between Gladstone and Bundaberg.

"When such an important route is regularly affected by weather events, it causes significant disruption to important tourism and commerce activities, costing everyone time and money.

"The recent spate of tragedies on local roads also underlines the importance of the LNP's plans to fix regional road networks if it secures government at the next State election."
