Premier Trifles with the Truth - Bennett

Premier Anna Bligh has trifled with people's lives – as well as the truth – when she falsely claimed today that Queensland's hospital emergency waiting times were right up with the best in Australia.

LNP Candidate for Burnett Stephen Bennett said her statement contradicted the findings of an independent Productivity Commission report, which revealed that Queensland lags behind the national average.

"The terminology of "hospital ramping" by our hardworking ambulance officers has been accepted by this Labor Government as a way of life because of their 20 years of mismanaging Queensland Health," he said.

"It's just not good enough. Sick and frail Queenslanders deserve better.

"Right now, there are more than 220,000 patients waiting to get on the elective surgery waiting list.

"We also have a $220 million broken health payroll system, an alleged $16 million fraud, and front-line health workers who continue to give their best – despite a health system that is irreparably broken.

"And now, with an upcoming election, Anna Bligh is trying, untruthfully, to convince us that our health system is right up there with the best.

"For far too long, Queenslanders have been subjected to distractions, broken promises, scandals and waste by this tired Labor government. Now they expect us to swallow even more false claims.

"The health system, like so many other Queensland Labor mismanagement disasters, cannot be fixed.

"It needs a new direction, and that can only be delivered by a united LNP Government, committed to local decisions that are guided by grass-roots health professionals and communities."
