"Our commitment to fund a new PICU on an ongoing basis will give certainty and peace of mind to families. They will have access to this service in the future under an LNP Government, instead of the current uncertainty under Labor," Mr Newman said.
"Under this tired 20 year Labor Government, regional children's health services have been ignored and have become increasingly centralised in Brisbane – where North Queensland children are currently being sent.
"Under pressure, Labor recently announced only 2 years of funding to get them through the election.
"Our doctors and nurses in North Queensland, who do a fantastic job, have been let down by an out of touch Labor Government who repeatedly and defiantly denied more children's health services were needed in the North.
"Bringing a PICU to North Queensland is a result of the hard work and dedication of local clinicians, and the dogged persistence of LNP Candidates, David Crisafulli, John Hathaway and Sam Cox."
Mr Newman said a North Queensland PICU will deliver specialist care for children in the rapidly growing Northern Queensland region – instead of the stress of transporting them more than a thousand kilometres away from their families.
"This critical initiative will also give more control back to local doctors and nurses.
"Among other health proposals announced by the LNP team is an increase in patient travel subsidies – which the Bligh government has repeatedly refused to consider.
"You can't revitalise front line health services without a change of Government.
"It's time for a change. It's time to get Queensland back on track."
