Bligh's "enemy infiltration" claims in tatters

Anna Bligh's claims a former Labor candidate linked to online homophobic and racist rants was trying to "infiltrate the enemy" are laughable, the State Opposition said today.

Deputy Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls said Anna Bligh's bizarre theory that dumped candidate Peter Watson planned yesterday's debacle could not and would not be believed by Queenslanders.

"This man was a member of the Australian Labor Party for four years and branch secretary, while his father was the branch president and a Labor stalwart*," he said.

"That's hardly the pedigree of a plant.

"Just as Labor MPs and candidates trying to air brush out their logos and union ties can't walk away from their toxic party brand, Anna Bligh can't walk away from this candidate her party was initially happy to have stand in the seat of Southern Downs."

Mr Nicholls said Anna Bligh often boasted of being born in Warwick when she was trying to woo voters in the bush and would have known the local branch leaders Peter and Dudley Watson.

"Labor has been all over the shop on their explanations about this candidate," he said.

"Initially, Labor HQ were saying Mr Watson 'denied the allegations' but by mid-morning Anna Bligh was saying he had been expelled and this man was engaged in some grand conspiracy to 'infiltrate the enemy'.

"It's just another Labor circus that shows Labor is more focussed on themselves than the needs of Queenslanders."

Mr Nicholls said Anna Bligh was clearly showing signs of cracking under pressure.

"Hot on the heels of her jail jibes and Mark Latham-like meltdown in Parliament, this week Anna Bligh is sprouting grand conspiracy theories that sound like a movie plot," he said.

"You just can't believe anything Labor says, especially when the Premier and former ALP president tries to now play the victim.

"It's time for a change. It's time to get Queensland back on track."
