Townsville Future Plan - "Not Government Policy", Not Labor Policy

Labor has been caught out misusing taxpayer resources after the Department of Local Government and Planning posted The Second Capital City - Townville Futures Plan prominently on its website during the caretaker period.

The document had earlier been launched as Labor Party policy by Anna Bligh in Townsville and posted on the ALP's website.

Oddly, both versions of the document declare on their front pages that it was "not government policy".

Deputy Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls said the matter raises serious questions about Labor's misuse of taxpayer resources during the election and again demonstrates they are willing to manipulate the public services for political gain.

"The timing of this document's release means that it has effectively been produced with taxpayer resources in order to be used as a Labor Party election policy," he said.

"Compounding this, the department has acted in an overtly political way to promote that policy on its website during the caretaker period.

"We also have this strange situation with the document has been labelled as "not government policy" despite the Labor party launching it as such only yesterday.

"Either way there are serious questions for Anna Bligh and Labor to answer today.

Is this actually a policy or not a policy? Is this "government policy" or not?If it is, why is it marked "not government policy"?Likewise, why were DGLP resources used to prepare an ALP election policy and why was it posted on the DGLP website during the caretaker period?

"The people of Townsville might be wondering if Anna Bligh's much hyped vision for Townville is "not government policy" then what exactly is it?

"While Labor is obsessed with silly games, the CanDo LNP is offering a strong plan for the future to grow a four pillar economy and get unemployment down to 4% in 6 years with significant investments for the Far North and North announced this week.

"It's time for a change. It's time to get Queensland back on track."
