North Queensland Floods

I extend the thoughts of all LNP members to those who have been impacted by the extreme weather and flooding up in North Queensland this week. As Queenslanders, we unfortunately know all too well the devastation and destruction caused by flash flooding. Homes and businesses are inundated and roads have been cut off. Please listen to the advice of authorities and remember, if it’s flooded, forget it. I know that once the danger has subsided, in true Queensland spirit, friends, family, neighbours and strangers will come together to assist those who weren’t so lucky.

Scott Morrison Delivering for Queensland

Prime Minister Scott Morrison was back in Queensland, this time announcing new funding for congestion-busting infrastructure on highways and local roads. The Federal Liberal National Government will commence work on projects such as corridor improvements along Beaudesert Road/Mt Lindesay Highway, Gympie Arterial Road and the Ipswich Motorway. Other major local projects include intersection upgrades like Barbour Road and Norris Road at Bracken Ridge and Panorama Drive and Wellington Street in Cleveland, just to name a few.

The difference between the Prime Minister’s visit this week and Bill Shorten’s last week is that these announcements aren’t election promises. They are happening now. Bill Shorten travelled north on his higher taxes bus and re-announced already funded LNP projects. It’s a stark contrast to an LNP Government, getting on with the job of building the roads, bridges and dams we need.

I commend our hardworking representatives who haven’t stopped fighting for and delivering for their communities.

Deb’s Queensland Report

It was back to school for thousands of Queensland kids and teachers this week, but sadly many of them walked straight into sweltering classrooms.

The LNP’s commitment to deliver air-con in every state school classroom will give our kids a better environment to concentrate on learning.

Our amazing teachers deserve decent working conditions too.

We need all public schools air-conditioned as a priority – it’s not impossible as Labor’s Grace Grace has claimed.

Meanwhile, many commuters headed back to work and were faced with gridlock.

This week marked the two year anniversary since the Strachan Report was handed down in the wake of Labor’s disastrous rail fail.

Since that time, we have seen Philip Strachan resign in disgust, 472 weekly services still not restored and Annastacia Palaszczuk unable to give a date for when Labor’s rail fail will end.

We also learnt late last year that only 40 new full-time drivers have been employed in the last two years.

We have 165,000 Queenslanders looking for a job that can’t get one. It’s time to stand up to the union bosses and employ more drivers.

It’s clear that Annastacia Palaszczuk is owned by the trade union bosses – lock, stock and barrel.

Just this week, safety inspectors said they are fearful of “occupation violence” from unions and workers and have started refusing to attend 17 construction sites across Queensland.

Annastacia Palaszczuk needs to condemn this behaviour and stand up for her own government workers.

Labor are beholden to the union bosses because they rely on them for their preselection and millions of dollars of cash donations.

It’s time she listened to the likes of Peter Beattie and Kevin Rudd and cut the CFMMEU loose.

Finally, I am thinking of everyone in Townsville and surrounding regions currently affected by severe flooding.

The heavy rain has by no means broken the drought, but I’m pleased to see some areas in Queensland receiving much-needed rain.

The downfall is expected to continue well into next week so please keep up to date with warnings.

If you have loved ones there – make sure you check on them. Stay safe and if it’s flooded, forget it.
